Jarritos Soda
Product Design, Book Design, Coasters, and Truck advertisement.
Bottle design was a whole new world for me. Even before I started the Graphic Design program, I wanted to redesign beer cans. I'll admit, I purchased beer and wine based on the design before looking at the taste profile or strength. Because of my excitement at this opportunity to redesign a bottled beverage, I may have tried to throw in too many ideas into one project.
I wanted to incorporate typography, illustration, practice patterns, and utilize the bright color of the drink itself into the design. I didn't want to deviate from Jarrito's influence on Mexico's heritage. The bottle choice with the illustrations is to mimic saint candles. The illustrations were inspired by Mexican cultural icons: a Luchador, a Virgin Maiden (a play on the Virgin Mary), a Mariachi, and a Folklorico dancer. I wanted the illustrations to also have a hidden pattern of the fruit in the flavor they represent. The Luchador has a strawberry mask, the Maiden lime as a sugar skull design, and so forth. My original design had the illustrations colored in, but on the revision, I chose to utilize the color of the soda itself to make the figures shine!
I had a hard time with minimalism layout design, so I tried break out of my comfort zone with the marketing booklet. I leaned on shapes to infulence the design sticking with square/rectangles, pyramids and circles for the sun mimicing the Aztec's style.
